Night Fest '09

So last last weekend, Singapore was again having its annual Night Festival.

It was the only time where the museums at the Bras Basah precinct open their doors till late at nite and the word 'happening' can be used to describe them. Coz let's face it, how many Singaporeans actually go and visit the museums in their free time. Somemore need to pay money for it. They would rather go shopping and discovering new malls... like Orchard Ion which opens today! (BJ's gonna head down after work!).

Yupz, that's the sad reality of museums. But the Singapore's National Heritage Board has been doing a fabulous job in luring the crowd down to their museums, eg. Night Fest!

This is the time when admission to the National Museum and the Peranakan Museum is totally free of charge! Nothing attracts the local more than the F-word and the organizers know it's a definite crowd puller.. Haha

First time i see so many humans crowding around the Museum area... even Stamford Road was blocked to ease crowd congestion.

So BJ went around the area to see what's the buzz about this year... Looks like the naked guy in the National Museum has been replaced by a couple of tanks. These tanks were supposed to mimic the structure of a pagoda. It has something to do with war and love or something like that...

And random art pieces were placed around too. Here we see a spiral lighting where kids would run through.

And here is a light-tree. Stand under it during thunderstorm and higher chances of you getting lighted up! ...by the lightning that is!

The 2nd level of the National Museum just right next to the gallery entrance was turned into an open-air cinema. They were showing Bujang Lapuk, a classic Malayan movie. Let the people come in with their convertibles and it'll be a picture perfect drive-in cinema.

At 10.30 pm, a 'spectacular live show' was scheduled right outside the National Museum. Since we're early, we head to the Peranakan Museum for some Babas and Nyonyas... And there she was, an unusually skinny Nyonya (normally their food very fattening and they eat alot marh) performing some Jazz ala Peranakan.

Freebies makes us happy!

Coming 10.30, we start to make our way back to the NM only to find that it's more packed than the sardines (or tuna) in a can.

It seems that the NHB really did a great job in attracting the crowd. As a result, it was hot, stuffy, and a perfect breeding place for our dear friend H1N1 virus.

Nevertheless, awesome spot.

The show started out with some dudedess walking round and round really slowly at the opposite side (The SMU green i think). It was sooooooo boring. But then they started to shoot fire.

"Oh no! They're gonna shoot fire to the National Museum!"

And with fire comes.... errrm... trees!

and the trees turn brown cz weather too hot!

And here was the highlight of the nite. Girls playing with fire suspended mid-air!!

And what is a grand finale without some really expensive fireworks display!!

And firefall cascading down the walls of NM. It's amazing that the building was still intact after all those pyrotechnics. Haha.

After the show was some bazaar-flea-market shopping, also part of the Night Fest.

And that's Day 1 for ya!

On Sunday, BJ decided to participate in a walking tour conducted by this veteran reminiscing her memories of old Singapore.

Here, at the old National Library site, she was walking backwards as a way of tracing her memories of the now demolished library.

We would really like to continue to see what else Amanda would lean on for the rest of the tour. But the stupid weather suddenly rained on us, forcing us to take shelter in SMU with 3 other really sweet and nice aunties who let us took cover under their umbrellas.

Life in Sunset Valley (Part 2)

So our Mighty Mighto has found herself a job at the nearby Bistro... Everyone has gotta start somewhere and for Mighty, she's now a dish washer.! With no working experience whatsoever, she's grateful that someone is paying her moolahs just to wash some plates. But being the ambitious young woman she is, she's determined to climb the career ladder as fast as the chicken crossing a busy road...

So on her first nite after work, she asked her boss, Molly for a dinner at the bistro and just chatting away about their day at work. Obviously, they're tired and hate washing dishes. Sucking up to the boss can help Mighty go a loooooooooooooooong way. Faster promotion and opportunities for bonus cash! Before long, the two has become the best of friends.

Working life sux. (Hey Mighty, i feel your pain!). You wake up early, go work, come back shit tired, then you sleep. There's hardly any time to do anything fun. But Mighty can't lose sight. She wants a big house and a car that her neighbors would be envy of and so she gotta bust her ass for it.

Having a steady income means an increase in Mighty's spending power. So she got something which her household has been lacking for so long, a decent television! It's certainly a good buy in Mighty's opinion, coz she can catch new recipes from the cooking channel, scare herself shitless from watching horror movies, and doing some basic workout to "The Biggest Loser".

On one of her off day, Mighty went on a date with this young chap called Christopher. Mighty can't remember how they met actually. She was just browsing thru her contacts and there he is. And she was bored. and hungry. Who knows, this could turn out to be something saucy...

With more and more Simoleons flying into her pockets, she can finally afford to add a backyard to her modest house! It's nicely decorated, complete with shining spotlights at all four corners. With a barbeque pit and seats for six, it looks like a great party place! And why need such a place?

A buffet table?! What is Mighty up to????

Hahaha. It seems that Mighty's birthday is coming!!! And she has planned to organize a mad-crazy birthday party to celebrate her transition from a young adult to an elegant classy woman.

Mighty invited some of her closest friends for the party, not forgetting Molly and Christopher. Since the day she moved to Sunset Valley, she has been expanding her social circle (networking = opportunities = cash!) and it has paid off. She's extremely elated with their presence. It makes her feels like a minor celebrity! haha.

And the time has come!

On a more somber mood, Michael Jackson left us on the 25th of June 2009. I won't say i'm one of his super crazy fan, not like those that scream till they faint during his concerts... I've never actually see him in real life before too. But i've always like his music and enjoy all his music videos and performances.

I still remember when i was in primary and all the way till secondary school, i dread waking up in the morning for school at those ungodly hours... My dad would then play something on the TV for me to watch while eating breakfast. And this was like a ritual, everyday every morning without fail. My dad is a big MJ fan by the way. He keeps recording of almost all his concerts and bought his HISTORY and THRILLER laser disc (yes, those tyre look-alike...) and also the MOONWALKER vcd. So my daily morning dose of TV was a healthy mix of Pinocchio, Mickey Mouse, Beauty & the Beast, Power Rangers, Doraemon, and MICHAEL JACKSON among others...Having a dad like mine, growing up listening to MJ was quite inevitable.

Not long into my teenage years, and im already a fan. But sadly, it was during those years too that he stopped producing smash hits and mind-blowing music videos. Instead, he was constantly being put in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. I've always wanted to see him sing and dance again and when i got to know about his concerts in London, i know i'll definitely buy his concert DVD when it's out. Even if i don't, my Dad will.

It's such a pity that we can't see him in his full glory for one last time...

So when a tribute to MJ was being held in Singapore, i told myself to be there to say bye bye...

It was held at Hong Lim Park (Clark Quay MRT), more famously known as the Speaker's Corner.

People only starts crawling in when it gets dark.

A moment of silence, with candle in hand.

On a projector screen, they showed all of MJ's chart topping music videos that some say has revolutionized the pop music and dance of our generation... Black and White, The Way You Make Me Feel, Bad, Earth Song, Thriller, Smooth Criminal,... just to name a few. Me and Jac stayed and watched till the end.

It was a great way of saying my goodbye, celebrating his work and reminding myself of how amazing an entertainer he was. Thank you Michael Jackson! and may you rest in peace!!

Laksa Steamboat @ Telok Blangah

Good Morning!

This stupid internship is really taking a toll on me now... TGIF!..

So sleeeeeeeeeeepy!

Anywayz, few weeks ago, BJ went to try out laksa steamboat for dinner.

Place: Laksa Steamboat Restaurant!

Venue: Along Telok Blangah road on the way to Vivocity (from NUS that is)

I know you've been wondering how good this place is... especially if you are (or were) a Shearite, passing by this oddly placed restaurant every time you make your way to Vivocity.

Laksa Steamboat = Laksa as broth. Apparently the broth used was the same that was used for some famous Laksa & Nasi Lemak shop at Holland Village.

Laksa broth!! And the forgettable chicken broth...

Important Note: It's' not buffet-style! Dont anyhow order until you burn a hole in your pocket. It's ala-carte means each plate of somethingsomething will cost you something!

We got ourselves beef slices, taopoks, fish, fishballs, meatballs, noodles, and two bowls of rice.

Overall good experience! Food was quite tasty after swimming in the laksa pool. But cant eat too much or drink too much of the soup, cz you're gonna feel damn jelak after that.

It's kinda a good place for group dinners i'll say.. It's something different and its not that expensive, and everyone can just talk cock waiting for food to be cooked. Prepare to fork out bout 15bucks per person though!

Once upon a time, in a land far far away...

So far away, that the people speaks a language you will never understand. So far away, that everyone dines in bistros & good 'ol diners. So far away, there are more trees than men and women altogether

So far away, that there are no HDB flats, no endless construction sites, and no people rushing into trains to get a sit.

Welcome to SUNSET VALLEY~~!

Sunset Valley, a peaceful little small town... and among all the lavish bungalows and 2-stories mansions, there stood a humble house with an ambitious young woman and her five decorative pelicans.

Her name is Mighty Mighto.

Mighty has just moved in to the neighborhood. And with her inadequate wealth, this is as best as she can get for a temporary home-stay. I said temporary cz Mighty here has big plans for herself and she's not gonna stay in this little hole till the end of her days. Will her future plans work out for her? Well, it's all up to her, really...

Mighty is also a natural cook! She picks up cooking skill much faster than an average Joe and it's not at all surprising that her lifetime wish is to be a culinary librarian! - to know every single recipe known to mankind.

Charismatic and charming. That's the 2Cs for you. Mighty's words are as sweet as the flower scents and as manipulative as a puppeteer. She can talk her way out of anything... Still, all this comes with practice and Mighty diligently hone her charisma skill almost every night before she hits the bed... perhaps with a little charm she will get that big mansion that she has always wanted.

You can try bringing Mighty to the art museum, but she can't appreciate art. A multi-million dollar art-piece to her is just a crash dummy. All she wants though is to sweat it out and do some sports cz she likes pumping her heart up!

So Mighty makes a quick dash to the local community pool and take a big splash under the insanely hot weather.

And being the competitive woman she is, she challenged random strangers to hold-your-breath competition. She won both of them and she knew they're no match for her.

Since Mighty's new to the place, she decided to throw a small lil' party... and invited three of her closest acquaintances in Sunset Valley. But apparently, this is her first time throwing a party and she's not doing very well. She can't prepare her food in time before the guests arrive, leaving them to themselves while she hurries away with her Mac & Cheese. And there are three guests, but only two chairs on the dining table. Poor Mighty... maybe she'll do better next time.

After a few days in Sunset Valley, Mighty finally realized that she needs a job to pay for her bills and her Simoleons are running pretty low. If she wants that big car big mansion big everything, she's gotta work for it. And since cooking is already in her blood, she landed herself a job in the nearby Bistro.

How has Mighty life changed after assuming this new responsibility?

It has already been 2 months since the holiday started (yeah, we're already two third at it! sigh). And MJ died. Double SIGH

Life at work sux big time. haha. But my Macao-HK-Taiwan trip was awesome, more bout that in another post (hopefully).

Backlit keyboard! No more squinting for the letters when in the dark!

I've been using this laptop for more than a week now and i gotta say the best thing about this gorgeous machine is its graphics. Coupled with the new screen, (its way way way much better than my previous Macbook) everything on the screen suddenly looks so much more alive! Food looks more delicious, Monsters look more scary, and pimples (on faces) also become more obvious!

Seriously, the screen is brighter... and the colors are like much 'solid'. I was watching ICE AGE 3 HD Trailer from the Apple website and i was blown away! The elephant fur is like real wan lor....Really makes me wanna watch all my old HD movies again just to see the difference.. Haha

And then the battery life was very impressive. One day when i was using my laptop in the office, and like around 3.30pm my Mac suddenly ask me to connect to power source due to low battery. And i was like WHAT?! It was running on battery all along??!!! And i started work at 9am ya know! It lasted 6 and a half hour before reaching 5% battery life. Blown away twice!

We can never talk sense into ignorant minds (unfortunately this blog is frequented by more than a few of them). I agree with Kenny on this issue (which is pretty much a non-issue to begin with). The consumers benefit the most from the development of this airport; not Air Asia, not MAS, period. Why should a noble cause be politicised in such a way that certain parties be allowed to gain personally from this hoo-ha? This genuinely reflects the unflattering side of Malaysian culture whereby time is wasted on petty debates (e.g. should we send another astronaut into space? of course not!) and people fail to see the "big picture". We must allow businesses to grow and compete on a leveled playing field. Air Asia is a true Malaysian success story and they continue to reinvent themselves with consumer value in mind. I'm not saying they're perfect as they do suffer from hiccups occassionally but they've been rather succesful in promoting the Malaysian brand internationally. Obviously, MAB and MAS have always been protected by the government but this is the wrong way to go and a change is long overdue. If we want Malaysian businesses to be able to compete globally, then we must first eliminate, or at least reduce, the benefits of commercial protection afforded to most GLCs. The current global downturn personifies the phrase "Only the strongest survives". This is just another episode of power struggle in the Malaysian "upper" society. I've no hope for our governmment, nor the opposition.

Ipod Touch 2g Unboxing

FINALLY!! I finally managed to get my hands on the best iPod ever a few weeks ago.. Its my second iPod to date and i've been waiting for Apple's iPod Touch 2g (second generation) for days for it to be available in Singapore after Steve Job announced it during the 'Lets Rock' September Event... After bout 3 weeks into using it, i've come to the fact that it is my 2nd best investment (on electronic gadgets) so far with the best being my macbook... It's really a must-have mobile entertainment gadget for year 2008!

I was totally like a small kid (all excited and stuff) after i bought it from an Apple Premium Reseller in Parkway Parade and straight went to Vivo to unbox it.. Haha..

Apple's iPod Touch 2g - "The funnest iPod ever"

What differentiate this generation from its predecessor is that it has an external volume control which is a major plus point. But the best addition is a much appreciated external speaker! which is a major major plus point.. Now you can show off a short youtube clip or the latest tunes to a group of ur friends without the hassle of sharing earphones! And some other improvements are longer battery life, thinner sleek design, and also the new 2.0 firmware which cost S$9.99 for an upgrade from the old iPod Touch..

Gotta connect to iTunes first for activation before it can be used..

Anyway, after a few days playing with my iPod, i noticed a defect.. basically the touch screen is not properly attached to the metal frame at the bottom left corner that when you press the surface of the Touch abit, it'll sort of bend down..

But Apple has very kindly replace me with a new one ( 1 for 1 exchange ) but not before i waited for about a week as they ran out of stock for the 16gb version.

So after the exchange, its like i got a new iPod again and still have the thrill to unbox it!.. Haha

It was that time of the month again and i brought Jac to this German restaurant that i've been eye-ing for a while now.. Been reading bout it in TimeOut Magazine and the review wasnt bad..

So Brotzeit is this german bar and restaurant that serves german beer (lots and lots of beer) and a variety of german food but the focus is really on the sausages... cz that wat German's famous for: Sausages and Beers..

The environment was really classy but at the same time not intimidating at all!!

Had no idea which beer was gud.. in fact i never heard of any of those beers on the menu.. so jus decided to get the most popular one....

isnt it amazing how good sony ericsson's handphone cameras are.. Haha.. anw, loved the beer.. very very smooth.. if it wasnt for the slightly heavy price-tag, i would've gotten another one!

There was this period where the Singapore National Heritage Board (NHB) was having this very attractive promotion: Free entries to all museums!! (heritage-fever rubbed off from Jac)

And they also gawd this contest thingy where you go inside all the museums to find answers for some questions.. (we wanted to win a set of Wii!)

So we went to a few places..

First stop: Singapore National Museum---

The first room that we enter was gigantic and has screens projected all over the wall.. It was like watching a brain-washing movie clip .. but truly inspiring.. The clip and song sort of summed up what Singapore is all about!

Every visitor into the gallery was given this piece of equipment called the COMPANION and its ur mini personal tour guide that will tell you everything you want to know about all the exhibits and different sections in the gallery.. quite cool actually....

Then there was this theatrette where they showed how Singapore gawd its name.. the cool thing bout it was that the screen's like damn long...

This place was actually recommended by Jac. She and her colleagues frequented here often while she was interning at the ACM and they really liked it.

Apparently the bak kut teh here is really good (got newspaper cuttings all over) so here i am, to try it out..

This shop is just a road across from The Central, 5 mins walk from Clark Quay MRT...

The staff is really helpful in finding seats for you especially during peak hours...

Besides Bak kut teh, their menu also include pig innards, pig trotters, and green vegs..

Their broth was really quite addictive, ... peppery and loads of garlic cloves in it. Fragrant and full of flavours. The best thing was that the soup was refillable!
The meat was tender and damn delicious larh.. The only down side was that they only gave me 3 ribs for one serving... aih..
The greens were very nice too.. totally complemented the porky dish.
And you gotta try their ice lemon tea too... homemade goodness..

Malacca Boyz Nite Out: The Quest for Good Food!!

Finally!
We've always been talking about going on a food trail in Malaysia during one of the holidays....and we've been talking bout it since our Year One days!!!
Last holiday however, the plans finally realized!! Thanks to mainly Jon and Karthik and abit of Cheekiang...

So, it was a weekend getaway and the theme was 'Boyz Nite Out...' Participants included Jonathan, Karthik, Lam Chee Kiang, Wong Leong Hui, Chua Chun Kiang, and me.

Day 1: 6.30am rendezvous at Jurong East Interchange to take MRT to Kranji to take bus to the Woodlands checkpoint.

Halfway thru our journey, while taking the bus from Kranji MRT to the checkpoint to be exact, the traffic jam was so horrendous that we and 30plus other passengers decided to just walk all the way.. cz its faster...

Though it was quite a tiring journey, we expected worse. Upon returning to the homeland, we first grab the car that we rented and proceed to one of the best place in JB for breakfast....

...The Storia Cafe.. cant really tell ya where's this place cz i forgot the street name. According to ChunKiang, this place is always crowded in the morning and especially worse during weekends.

According to ChunKiang who's a pseudo-Johorian cz he spent more than half his entire life in sg, this place is extremely famous for Otah-otah and Nasi Lemak!!

Malaysia's Nasi Lemak... Totally different taste (better actually) than any nasi lemak you can find in Sg...

What a satisfying breakfast!!

With 4 to 5 pieces of otah each, a packet of nasilemak, and a cup of kopi-ping, it cost about RM6 per person... Hearty, cheap, and satisfying...

And with out tummy filled, its time to get ready for the long drive up to our destination: Melaka.
Our driver for the day: Mr. Karthik Pyraroganam.

Our 8-seater rented Toyota Innova. Extremely comfy and poweful to fetch the 6 of us. It was RM300plus if im not wrong for two days over the weekend...

After bout 3 hours of driving.... we have reached King's Hotel in Melaka....

However, cz we reached so early, the lady dont allow us to check in yet.. aih....

Cheeks is obviously upset, and almost slipped and fell on the slippery floor. Catch the sign at the left of the pic??? Poor cheeks...

But since its lunch time anyway, we went to look for some local eateries to have our lunch first and check-in after that....

After abit of walking towards Jonker Street, we stumbled upon this overcrowded small little stall...with super long Q outside...

A closer look revealed it to be a Chicken Rice Ball shop which is a famous delicacies in Melaka. We really wanted to try it out but the Q is too crazily long.. this could be the original stall i guess.. cz of our impatient stomach, we decided to look for other chicken rice shop instead cz there're a number of them along Jonker Street all selling chicken rice balls....

Overall it was another satisfying meal... fantastic chicken rice... but everyone agrees that the balls were overrated and they prefer rice instead.. much tastier and much filling! Bout RM10 per person for the meal!

We head to this Jonker Dessert along Jonker Street (duh)..

It looked crowded and that's always a good sign of good food!

and when you're in Melaka, your dessert gotta be a bowl of Durian Chendol with generous topping of Gula Melaka!!! Nothing beats this.. really!! RM1.80 (i think..)

We wanted an apartment unit so our room was at the building next door...

Before you continue, i would want to say that our unit was really really freaking big and too big for the 6 of us... huger than huge... way beyond our expectation...

As you can see from the floor plan, there's a living room and a dining room, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a modest balcony.... If you're not impressed with the number of rooms and bathrooms there was.. wait till you see the size of them...

This was the freaking size of each bedroom... there's a queen bed and a single bed in each of the bedroom!

The lovely bathroom...did i mentioned we got three of this????

Oh, and in each bedroom, there's a wardrobe and a dressing table...complete with mirror

The mini bar with free mineral water!!! Seriously, i bet that entire place is bigger than your HDB unit lar... and all that just cost bout RM330 for one nite!!!

For dinner, we wanted to try the Melaka Satay Celup.. another must try when you're in Melaka cz that's what famous there!!!...

After a few rounds around the city and directions from one uncle, we found this supposedly most famous Satay Celup Restaurant in Melaka.....

But next to it, there was also a Zao Jiuu which serves the same thing but looked more expensive

So What is Satay Celup, you ask me.... Let me explain it to you to the best i can.. Imagine lok-lok but instead of cooking your food in a pot of soup, you cook it in a pot of satay sauce!! If you dunno what is lok-lok, then just see the pictures below larh...

There were fish, shrimps, cuttlefish, taupok, crabstick, fishballs, hotdogs, etc...

It looks alot, but it wasnt enuf for the 6 of us!!

Boys and girls, this is how you cook your food in a satay celup restaurant...

You can help yourself with as many sticks you want... But do know that its not a buffet restaurant! I repeat, its NOT a buffet-style restaurant. Each normal stick will cost you RM0.50 and each red stick will cost you RM0.80... (Guys, correct me if im wrong!)

Night life in Melaka on a Saturday night is never quite with the existence of Jonker walk.. a giant-scale Pasar Malam.

This street will turn busy when night falls and its a stark contrast from during the day. Roadside stalls popped out of nowhere..

Its really damn happening all the stalls here i tell you...

You can buy fried ice-cream here..dunno how much cz we never buy.. too full...

Stalls selling boxes of fresh pineapple tarts... its also a famous thing in Melaka.. available not only during Chinese New Year... and to ensure customers that the tarts is really fresh, there's the oven right next to the boxes.. its where they baked the tarts, and put it straight right into the boxes.. and most still warm!! And smell damn nice too! One box around RM12.

But this time in another dessert joint with very interesting tables made up of old sewing machines...

While walking back to our car, we spotted this church which after 5 mins of debate, we concluded that it was abit slanted to the right... as seen in the picture..( not i purposely senget the camera k..)

Our Day one ended with some really good siew mai and pineapple tarts as supper while watching Astro TV at the comfort of our living area, then concassed on the bed till next morning.

Day Two: 10am in the morning.. we obviously overslept and missed our free buffet breakfast...

But thankfully to JON, he woke up early and went down to pack some Nasi Lemak for us!!

It was a damn mouth-watering nasi lemak k.. Freaking good bfast... I always like ayam masak merah (chicken) instead of bony fish with my nasi lemak...

After breakfast, we checked out and just took the car to drive drive around Melaka Town....

Wantan Mee!!! Any msian will tell u that the wantan mee in singapore is slightly different.. ours was not prepared with chilli sauce or ketchup (nicer obviously)....

A pisang goreng stall!!! Look closely and you'll see that its no normal banana.. Its technically a plantain, so not exactly a banana.. its like 5 to 6 times bigger than a normal banana.

Plantain goreng... These are slices of one piece of plantain, being sliced into many pieces.. If they fry the entire plantain for you, you need to carry it with two hands..

We reached JB citysquare in late afternoon and went to watch a movie.. Then it was time for one last meal before we cross the border...

We walked to this very long and kinda secluded backlane, the Meldrum Walk.... It was my first time there and i am amazed by how many stalls were there...all selling the kinda food that we were craving for...It was a relatively narrow lanes with tables set up along it.. Though its kinda hidden, everyone sort of knew just where to find it...

We also had BBQ chicken wings and Fried Oysters

We then went back to the little island, happily full. It was one fantastic makan trip that we can never forget (whenever we do, we just look down at our tummy)....

Cant wait for the next trip!!

Prawn Arabiatta Fusilli... the sauce tasted quite normal.. but the prawn was good.. Huge and crispy.

Crispy!... Its a good way to prepare prawns if they're not that fresh i guess.. Just fry 'em up good! Haha

Chicken Scalloppini Spaghetti.... It was very greasy!! I like cream-based pasta but this seemed more like oil-based. But the garlic made the dish quite tasty and the chicken was quite moist too with a tinge of lemon. Just not so much oil pls...

Overall the food was not as bad as i expected but definitely abit too pricy for its quality. Dont think i'll be going back there anytime soon!! Haha

The restaurant interior is abit olden-looking.. very suiting i guess since the crowd is usually of the older generation Haha.. jus a typical chinese restaurant decor.... And the dining area is huuuuuuuuge. You can hold a wedding inside, no doubt. Then the waiters and waitresses all speak cantonese, and they're quite efficient.

So its an ala-carte dimsum buffet, you ordered what you want from this piece of paper.. just tick everything to try... then when you're ready for a second round, just ask for another piece of paper to order more....

What's great bout this restaurant was that you can order as many desserts as you want too! Most dimsum buffet, or any buffet for that matter usually limit your desserts to one serving...

Some of us Eekers went to Genting Highland during the hols...
I tried to get rooms thru online but it was too late so we decided to go thru a travel agency (707 Travel) which offered the best price then...

Good thing is they have their own buses to Genting and its direct, not like some agencies where u gotta change bus halfway...

We took a night bus (10pm) from Chinatown People's Park Center....

After bout 2 hours into the journey, we stopped somewhere in Johor for a quick rest and a quick bite...

It was when both of us were hungry for thick meat slabs that we decided to try out this place that i've heard so much about..

Bread. It's the first time i see bread being served this way..

Anyway both of us ordered the 8-ounce Outback Sirloin($27.90) which comes with two side dishes of our own choice.

Thick juicy steak!!

I know they got one of the most sought after dessert (Chocolate Thunder from Downunder) but their steak is incredibly fresh, juicy, and full of flavor. And the sauce that comes with it (i suspect it contains rum) compliments the steak really really well.. And i suggest to have your steak medium raw and your meat will be damn tenderlarh!!

Evidence of a good quality steak. Cooked evenly on all four sides and the difference in color tone from the edge of the steak to the center of it...arent ya drooling alr??!!

Peng Fei's 23rd @ Shokudo

For our dearest PengFei's 23rd Bday, we went to Shokudo @ Raffles City Basement for dinner.

It is the Japanese version of Mache. It practices similar concept from selling their food in a bazaar-like restaurant to using a magnetic-striped card to keep track of your expenses.

The only difference is that they serve totally Japanese food instead. They have the classic jap sushi, tempura, and ramen to modern jap influenced pizza, pasta, and chicken chop.

Look at the spread on our dinner table....and this's only the first round..

The food in Shokudo is not exactly expensive. But when you go in big groups, food just keep coming to the table and when it's time for the bill, well....Ka Ching! So tip: DONT GO IN BIG GROUPS!!

Food wise, some were nice but most were mediocre to me. The kushiyaki (meat on skewers) was very tasty and delicious, so as their tempura. Their scallop sashimi is very nice and fresh but i've seen better salmon sashimi in SAKURAYA@The Village along Pasir Panjang Rd. Their omelette, hot plates, and desserts were normal, not entirely a level above other restaurants'.

However one thing in Shokudo that i cant find anywhere else is their Green Tea Macha Drink! For the price of $2.50(if im not wrong), it is rich, flavorful, refreshing, and super addictive!

About a month ago, i was working as a temp in this event company called Hivelocity to help them out on an event called the DBS Children's Charity Run...

Hivelocity mainly deals with sporting events such as the Adidas Sundown Marathon and the Iron Man.

The DBS Children's Charity Run was held at the Bishan Park... Its the first of its kind ever initiated by DBS and its important for Hivelocity to ensure the event runs smoothly, to leave a good impression.

Anyway, lunchtime was always the highlight of the day for me cz the perms that has been working there for ages always bring us out for cheap tasty delicious food...

What impresses me the most is this drinks stall located inside the Beach Road Food Centre... walking distance from Lau Pa Sat...

Yes, the Q is this long... just to get a drink from Mr. Syed.... and what are all of them q-ing for?????

They're all craving for the same thing.. their famous Teh Peng.. compared to the one u had in Fong Seng, their's is like fit for kings...
Most of the tehpeng in Singapore that i've tasted are either too diluted or too sweet. The stingy tehpeng maker would purposely give u tonnes of ice and very little teh.. if u dont finish it in 5 mins, it'll be tasteless...

To avoid long q, just dont go during lunchtime.. I had it everyday when i was there and still cant get enuf.. The perfect cold drink to end off a meal of oily hawker food... Syiok!

UPDATE: Haha.. looks like the DBS peeps subscribed to google alerts and they informed charmaine about my entry.. Anw, correction..... It is not Beach Road Food Center but its AMOY STREET FOOD CENTER.. and the price for the teh peng is not $1.20 but only $1buck!! Aih, my corroding memory.. Thanks Charmaine!

I have a very valid reason for not updating my blog as often as i should be. I have finally found a holiday job!!! For the past week, i've been working with Hivelocity on this DBS children's charity event (tell you more bout that in future entry)... And now, im a Cedele-ian! Yeah, so i have been busy alrite...

And so and my holiday continues.. somewhere last month, me and Jac went to watch the opening of the Singapore Arts Festival.. they showed some artsy fartsy watershow at the OUB promenade which was quite cool...

But we were hungry so we stopped by O'briens for a bite....

and it overlooks the OUB promenade which is so damn nicelar..

Hot Tomato's Hamburger

So Yuanbin was very kind to organize an exswoc outing someday last week.. As usual, everyone was late.. I was the stupid one that arrived 15 mins late.. should've made it an hour late....
But it was all worth it cz i get to spend some quality alone time with Yb, with him giving me some interesting updates...

I was starving and we went to this place called Hot Tomato at Plaza Singapura (where i ordered the burger above).

Price Range: SGD10 - SGD15

Actually we randomly went in only.. I guess what made us went in was that unlike most of the other eateries on Basement2, HT had seats for us. Others were just booths and we wanted a place to talk cock.

Ambiance is not too bad.. at around 3pm, it was quiet which was good cz then you'll feel like you booked the entire place.. and also no staffs quickly trying to clear your plates and hinting you to get out...

Food wise is just mediocre. The burger was delicious, (prolly cz i was hungry) but i had better ones in carls junior.. Haha
They serve classic western food... from mushroom soup to caesar salad to chicken sandwiches to fish and chip.

Post Exam Day Three

...and the blogging continues....

So, the third day after the exam... and that seems long long long time ago.. anw, me and Jac went to Sentosa early in the afternoon...

I have trouble snapping a pic of the horizon without including a line of ships along it..quite sad really... Haha... wonder why still so many angmohs like to come here...

We decided to head for the Merlion tour cz there's really nothing else much to do...

Thanks to our islander cards, the admission fee for us is SGD6.40... Usual price is SGD8.00.

If ya dun have 8bucks to spend, here's how the inside of the merlion looks like....
First, y'all go thru a sort of zigzag walkway with posters and figurines everywhere...something like those carnival haunted house but with a much more pleasant atmosphere.

When u enter the merlion, the staff will give ya a merlion coin.. which they explained that it'll be useful later...

Then y'all will reach a dead end where u'll see this not-so-scary looking dragon.. and there's a timer counting down... U'll think that when the clock shows zero, the dragon will suddenly move, opens its big wide mouth and eat you up!!!! But no, thats not what happened... what happened is there's this door there and it will open to reveal a mini theater like a seminar room...

Then you will watch a short clip explaining how the merlion comes about..

The Merlion looks abit ridiculous here.. and the audience laughed out...

Remember the merlion coin?? After u exit the mini theater, you will come to room with like 9 merlions there.. You're supposed to pick one of the them, insert your coin into their mouth.. and u will be rewarded with a piece of card.. It'll either be mystery gift A, B, or C. The staff said we can exchange it for our gift later in the souvenir shop.. Exciting huh!!

Then u'll come to the top of the head of the merlion, with a spectacular view!!

Next, u'll continue to go to the mouth gallery...

At the mouth gallery, u'll actually be standing inside the merlion's mouth (obviously) and there's a photographer there that will be taking everyone's photo.. His presence there was quite irritating actually cz then, one cant really spend their own sweet time at the mouth cz there're other ppl there and he HAS to take everyone's photo..

We were gonna meet pf and the gang for steamboat dinner at Bugis, so....

we borrowed the books that we cant finish reading...

Someone suggested movie after dinner....
